The Season of Lent

The time leading up to Easter Sunday is called the Season of Lent. It is a time of repentance and meditation.  It is a season the church has set aside to focus entirely on the suffering (the Passion) of our Savior.  It is a time to realize our sins that took him to His cross and His great love for us. Lent puts a whole new perspective on the Christian life. As the hymn writer Isaac Watts wrote:

“When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride.”

Because when we take time to survey Christ’s cross, the love we see is mind-boggling, which is why Watts continued with these words:

“See from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown.”

So join us on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd and each Wednesday night in Lent (through March 28th ) at 7pm for some time to meditate on the work of our Savior, suffering for our sins, and the salvation he won for us through it. Then join us on Maundy Thursday, April 5th, and Good Friday, April 6th at 7:30pm as we witness Christ's suffering and death to pay for our sins.
